THE SALIMPOUR SCHOOL

The Salimpour school was founded in 1948 by Jamila Salimpour.  Known as the Mother of Bellydance in the United States, she was responsible for cataloging and defining the movements used in our format.  It was a revolutionary approach that focused on education as well as performance and is still relevant and substantive today.  While the Jamila format was based on the movements from dancers in the 30's through late 70's, the Suhaila format was developed as a result of Suhaila's work in Western dance forms. This resulted in a modernized the line and movement quality, and included new moves such as breaks and isolations. The Salimpour Certification program was the first certification program developed for bellydance and remains the most comprehensive.  The program develops dancers in the area of technique, musicality, history, creative expression, performance skills and so much more.  To find out more about the school, visit the website at www.SalimpourSchool.com.
